This week, National Digital Inclusion Week, is a time to come together to bring awareness and solutions to digital inequities in our community. This year’s theme is “Turning Our Moment into Movement,” and that’s exactly what we’re doing for our community.

“Affordability is a major barrier preventing households from accessing the internet, and our intent with the ACP toolkit was to make residents comfortable enrolling and for them to take advantage of the savings,” SADC Executive Director Marina Alderete Gavito said in a statement.

Twenty percent of Bexar County residents still do not have access to broadband internet.

The county is collaborating with the City of San Antonio and SA Digital Connects to bridge the digital divide in the area.

SA Digital Connects is a private-public partnership that aims to close the digital divide for local families in need, and their executive director joined Leading SA on Sunday to discuss the problem, some solutions and what comes next.

“When residents are enrolled in the affordable connectivity program, they could be getting internet for free,” Gavito added.
